Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Bill of Lading?
This is a document given to a client when his or her vehicle is being transported by a carrier. The Bill of Lading will document what is being shipped, including the year and model of the vehicle. Also, it will document the name of the customer, the name of the carrier company, where the vehicle is being shipped from, and where it will be delivered to. Most importantly, the Bill of Lading will document the condition of the vehicle upon pickup and its condition after delivery. This is why it is important for a customer to note and issues or damages with the vehicle at the time of pickup and delivery, before finally signing the form. It may even be helpful, in some circumstances, to take pictures of the vehicle as proof of the condition that it is in.
The Bill of Lading is a legal document and must be signed by an adult.
Will the vehicle be insured while it is being shipped?
Fortunately, yes, the carrier’s insurance will cover the vehicle during shipping. Also, the vehicle’s owner will not pay any money in deductibles in the case that anything goes wrong during shipping. The only situation in which a vehicle owner would need to use his own insurance is when damages are the result of acts of God.
What does “acts of God” mean?
In legal terms, this refers to natural disasters or circumstances that are not preventable, such as earthquakes, tornadoes, tsunamis, storms, etc.
Will I need to inspect the vehicle after delivery?
An inspection report will be completed at the time of delivery. The vehicle’s owner will sign the report if he/she finds the vehicle in satisfactory condition. We recommend that you check the vehicle carefully after delivery because, after the report is signed, any damages that may be found later will no longer be the carrier’s responsibility.
What if my vehicle is damaged?
Do not worry. Let the carrier know that you have discovered damage on the vehicle that did not exist before, then notate the damage in the inspection report. Keep a copy of the report. Then contact us so that we can file a claim. The insurance company will handle the process.
However, damages to your vehicle are unlikely since you will be working with an experienced and licensed carrier.
What if I am not satisfied with the service? Do I still need to pay?
Yes. Payment is due after delivery. Unfortunately, the driver will not be allowed to return the vehicle before he collects payment. However, we do recommend that you call one of our transport coordinators to report any problems. Also, make sure you note the issues in the Bill of Lading before signing it.
What payment method can I use to pay for shipping?
When your order is booked, you will be able to pay in full or to pay the reservation fee amount off $75-150 depending on route distance with a credit card. You will have to pay the rest of the amount to the driver after the car is delivered to you. Unfortunately, the driver will only be able to accept cash or a certified cashier’s check before leaving your vehicle.
What type of truck will be used to transport vehicles?
That may depend on a customer’s individual needs. Most often, customers choose open transport. This means that the vehicle will be transported openly, and usually on a large, double-decker trailer. This is slightly different from enclosed transport, where the vehicle will be protected and enclosed all around. Open transport is a popular choice because it is not as costly as enclosed transport.
Note: Although open transport provides less protection for your vehicle, the risk of damage to your vehicle is still very small with an experienced carrier. This is why open transport is usually a preferred choice for many customers.
Where will my vehicle be picked up?
Usually, we are able to pick up and drop off a vehicle wherever a customer instructs us to, unless the area is difficult to access for a large truck. We are also typically able to do door-to door shipping if the customer prefers.
What do I need to do to prepare the vehicle for shipping?
Let your transport coordinator know if there are any modifications or issues with your vehicle, or if there are any leaks that were not possible to fix. The vehicle should be in operable condition, as this will make it easier for the driver to position the vehicle onto the trailer. Also, we ask that you remove personal items from the vehicle. National transportation regulations that were issued by the FMCSA state that non-vehicle related items are not to be transferred with the vehicle during shipping.
Can I cancel my order?
Yes. We recommend that you cancel your order ASAP in the case that you change your plans. If you cancel an order before you receive your Dispatch Update, you will not be charged a cancellation fee. However, if you cancel an order after you receive your Dispatch Update, there will be a $100 cancellation fee, unfortunately. The reason for that is because, at that point, there already is a carrier on the way.
